Imagine you go outside and cannot stand how bright the sky is. You put your sunglasses on but after an hour you just want being home.
Or imagine you avoid going out because music is played too loud and you prefer wearing headphones because they make you feel relaxed.
Imagine an unknown person enters the meeting room and you know exactly how they feel. You even feel somewhat awkward from this unsought emotional proximity to a stranger.
Or you look at a painting and feel deep connection with the scene.
Or after a long and exciting day out you need to stay at home, cancel all appointments, draw, drink your favorite tea, and write in your diary.
This is how the world of a eccentric highly sensitive person might ook like.
Highly sensitive people process their sensations, emotions, and thoughts intensely and deeply. Bright light and loud noise can distract them or make them sick. Colors of their interiors can change their mood; the emotions of people around them can change the way they feel.
Highly sensitive people have a great connection with the world outside of them and a great intuition in understanding how others feel and what their intentions are. In a way, they are too attuned to things and people outside of themselves.
If this attunement is not balanced by a good connection with their inner world, highly sensitive people can get chronically tired and fall into burn-out.
Unfortunately, when brought up by non-highly sensitive parents, highly sensitive people are taught to ignore their discomforts, doubt their feelings and question their self-care. Some were not allowed to stay home instead of going to a noisy birthday party, others were not allowed to cry when they needed to release their tension, thirds were told to focus on their studies and sport instead of being lazy or being weak.
Even in the adulthood, some highly sensitive people can poorly interpret their feelings and sensations, may experience chronic pain and fatigue, burn-out, and depression-like symptoms.
Each person is different, and sensitivity profiles can vary. Some people are intolerant to the light or sound, others are extremely attuned to the feelings, thirds are easily overwhelmed by plans and factual information.
That is why individual selfcare routines need to differ as well.
In group sessions with me and my colleague Ymke Dehon, you will discover how your high sensitivity profile is similar and different from high sensitivity of other people. You will be exploring your own sensitivity and learn to attune to your sensations, feelings, and thoughts.
In a warm environment, you will be inspired by tips and tricks about surviving in HSP-unfriendly environments and situations. You will be learning to take care of yourself and making warm connections with others in a way that respects your needs and sensitivity.
You will be learning to celebrate your uniqueness and sophistication and to protect them with healthy boundaries, to find a way towards being energetic and focused.
